On Monday, April 20, the German team “Hinterland” won the final of Ace Manager, BNP Paribas’s first professional adventure game.
Five teams composed of students from eight different countries competed in the final. Throughout the day, the students had to face a final challenge in front of a jury of experts from the BNP Paribas Group, as well as Richard Descoings, Director of Sciences Po Paris and Patrice Houdayer, Chief Operating Officer of EM Lyon business school. The students worked on three mini-cases that followed on from the game’s initial online phase. For the Retail Banking case, the players had to manage the bank in Universe City (the virtual world in which Ace Manager is set). For Investment Solutions, the students advised the tennis player they assisted in the first phase of the game on marriage settlement arrangements and wealth management issues. And for Corporate and Investment Banking, students had to finalise growth plans for the tennis racket manufacturing company by completing the takeover planned during the game’s online phase.
Prizes were awarded in the Orangerie by Michel Pébereau, Chairman of BNP Paribas, and Richard Descoings, Director of Sciences Po Paris.
The final results are as follows:
1/ Hinterland, comprising four German students from WHU University in Koblenz.
2/ The Elite International, made up of two Spanish students (ICADE Madrid), one American student (University of Pennsylvania) and one Chinese student (National University of Singapore).
3/ “Che bei che semo,” composed of three Italian students and one American. All are studying at the Bocconi business school.
4/ DIMS, made up of four Russian students from Moscow’s Financial Academy.
5/ Ace Synergy, comprising one Italian student (Turin, Politecnico), one student from the United Arab Emirates (Zayed University), and one French student (ENSMM of Besançon).
All finalists were awarded prizes. The top three received €10,000, €2,600 and €1,600 respectively. Tickets to tennis tournaments were also given to all finalists.
Ace Manager is central to BNP Paribas’s strategy to develop its brand image and appeal to young people outside France and become a leading global employer brand for students. To boost its brand image and consequently its appeal, BNP Paribas has capitalised on the tennis world, which is already associated with the bank thanks to 36 years of global sponsoring, and on its strong capacity to recruit and propose attractive career prospects.
Ace Manager was designed with the assistance of BNP Paribas bankers to give students the opportunity to learn about the Group’s three core businesses: Retail Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, and Investment Solutions.
BNP Paribas worked closely with TBWACorporate on this project, which had broad international scope.
